[The very beginning of the talk was not recorded.]
... When you are incarnating as an animal, in the animal kingdom, you have a group soul. And when you incarnate as a human being, you have an individual soul. So, you haven’t got your own soul working through you until you become a human being. The interesting thing is that it is called an individual soul, but that individual soul has earlier – it may be before incarnating on Earth, it could be on another planet – divided itself into two. So even if you have an individual soul today, another being shares your soul and that is called the twin soul, the twin ray.

Animal “ group soul
Human “ individual soul
[As just mentioned] at a certain stage in your development, your soul divided into two, and such two souls are called the twin rays, however each soul developing individually meaning that, through many incarnations, one of the souls – even if it has been the same soul but is now two souls – has developed more than the other one and therefore has more experience and more wisdom within the soul body.
We have something called, in theosophical language, the causal body. The causal body is also called the ‘higher mental body’ in ordinary language. The causal body is part of the soul. The soul is shapeless, completely shapeless. It’s a radiant being with very much energy in it. We can say that the soul is the spot [see diagram opposite] and that the causal body forms, around the soul, rings of colour.
I would like to explain something before I continue with reincarnation. I will write – I’m not very good at drawing,
I must admit that. You have noticed that perhaps already.
I usually draw these match – ‘match people’ I call them – matches. They look like matches.
Here we have a human being, [see diagram opposite] and this is the left side of the human being and this is the right side of the human being, so we know what we are talking about. Sometimes we reverse, you see, when we see it like this on the board. I am now going to use Rudolph Steiner’s terminology because Rudolph Steiner has described these things very clearly.
