[Editor's note: Beginning in the late 1980’s, Ananda conducted a series of Open House evenings. These were cosy gatherings where Ananda taught using a Question and Answer format, responding to questions asked by the participants.]

​Q. 'The first question tonight is, ‘is the permanent atom related to the DNA molecule?’  

Not quite. I would like to explain that the permanent atom is the pattern of the Higher Self, it’s the pattern of the soul within the heart chakra. It is a little replica of the human soul.

And, I was asking some of my good co-workers before about the molecule. I would say that what is more related to this molecule are the seeds of memory stored in the spinal cord in man, bringing the karmic patterns from many lifetimes into manifestation in the present lifetime. 

Also, the etheric body shows, of course, your past incarnations, and the present, because the condition of the etheric body happens to be what has happened to you in other lives, what actions you have performed, thoughts you have thought, feelings you have felt. The etheric body tells a lot of man, at least the karma of the personality.

 Q. 'The second question is, ‘what is the electronic body?’ 

I know that some American organisations speak about the electronic body. The electronic body is similar to the causal body. The causal body, as I have explained earlier, is that body which is enveloping the soul, and therefore, the causal body shows the karma, it shows everything that soul has undergone, for all lifetimes that soul has had. The electronic body is therefore the causal body, relating to the soul.

Q.  'The third question is, ‘what is the electronic pattern of a great being?’ 

It is the same as the electronic pattern for a human being, it is just more beautiful in a great being than in a human being of lesser qualities and characteristics. 

A cosmic being has a simply beautiful and splendid causal body, if not Higher Self, all depends where they are on the stage of initiation. And the great beings, the cosmic beings, are thousand times, if not million times, more radiant and beautiful than the electronic being or pattern for a human being who has not reached that stage of initiation and development. 

It is into the causal body that we look when we are soul clairvoyant, to see everything of growth, of karma, of past patterns, present and future patterns in a human being. 

Now, many people think the astral body is the causal body. That is why the clairvoyants on Earth are making many mistakes concerning human beings and their growth, and their past, present and future, for they are reading in the wrong body. 

If you want to know, you have to look in the causal body. But you can’t look into the causal body if you haven’t got a certain contact with your own causal body. You have to be of a higher vibration in your inner bodies to reach another soul’s causal body. So many people who are astral clairvoyants cannot reach another human being’s causal body, for their energies are too low for that. They cannot contact their own causal body, can therefore not contact others’ either. 

It is very difficult to look into the causal body. Even if you are a soul clairvoyant, some days you succeed better than others, because not every day we have the same powers and abilities. 

It all depends how harmonious we are. It all depends on rhythms, astrological rhythms, rhythms of the moon, and if you are a woman who is a clairvoyant, it has also something to do with period. Around the period you have more powers and abilities and clairvoyant talents than before or after. So, ladies especially will notice that they can more easily look and see and hear before period and at the time of the period. 

With men, it could be also around full moon – for some people, new moon – that they have more powers than at other times.  We must understand that we are human beings, we are susceptible to astrological rays and energies, our own astrological rays and energy, and we do not always see as clearly, as elevated as on other days.

Q. There is another question here, ‘could you please talk on your training by space beings?’, which I promised to talk about today because last time I came to this subject – very interesting subject – [I said I would], and I will explain a little bit about it today. 

See, space beings are not extra-terrestrials in the sense of the word, meaning that the ones calling themselves extra-terrestrials whom you may read about have nothing to do with the space beings who cooperate with the Hierarchy. Space beings that I have mentioned are very elevated beings from certain planets, and they belong to the Hierarchy of that planet. And these space beings are cooperating fully with the Hierarchy, training the disciples and initiates of the Hierarchy on Earth, especially also training their own people that they have sent to Earth recently. 

Now, extra-terrestrials come into a category of not so elevated, not always so elevated beings from other planets, meaning that they are not part of their planet’s Hierarchy, they may not be of a very spiritual nature. These extra-terrestrials are often making research on Earth, picking up people into their spacecrafts, conducting research, and letting them go, and these people sometimes remember, sometimes don’t. These extra-terrestrials are not as elevated as the space beings I’m about to mention now. 

We have on this Earth a Hierarchy, an inner government of Earth, and we also have an Interplanetary Council, there’s another question about the Interplanetary Council. It’s not a human council. It is a council existing among certain of the sacred planets. And in that council we have space beings, we can call them that, they are in reality enormous Masters of Wisdom belonging to the Hierarchy of certain sacred planets. 

In that Interplanetary Council they talk about the destiny and the future of the entire universe, just not Earth alone. But it was from that council, 18 million years ago, that the Lord Sanat Kumara, who had a leading function in that council, invoked and called upon a number of highly elevated souls from different places of the universe, for Them to accompany Him to Earth when He came here, incarnating here in His etheric body.

The space beings that I’m about to relate to you are beautiful beings. Now, how did it all start? It started when I was given, the summer of 1977, the Cosmic Service, half of the Cosmic Service, the other half was given to another, a group dual of mine. And that summer I was contacted, not only by the Hierarchy, but by Jupiter beings, Plutonian especially, very few from Venus at that time – it was mostly Jupiter and Pluto. 

Now, what are these beings doing? They live in spacecrafts that are not physical, they are more of an etheric nature. You can only see them if you have etheric or astral vision. And they are stationed there because they keep an eye on the evolution of Earth, and help the Hierarchy to instil peaceful thoughts into the minds of men. 

They also help the Hierarchy with the spiritual development of the Hierarchy’s disciples and initiates. What they do, they bring the disciple, in the disciple’s astral or mental body, into these spacecraft, which are energy stations. And in the spacecraft they have rooms in which they do certain work in the brain, in the cells of the brain, and in certain chakras, mainly the crown chakra of the brain, in these people. 

Now, many people dream about this at night when they sleep, because in their astral body they are transported to a spacecraft and are worked over there. But what they remember is that they are receiving a helmet on the head, just like you get at the hairdressers, and enormous pressure is developed within the helmet, in the brain. They know exactly what dosage to give to you before you break down. They give you the ultimate dosage, otherwise nothing happens. And they take you up in periods, because in the other periods in between you have to rest. 

The first thing that happened was that when I was meditating, I was brought in my mental body to a Jupiter spacecraft, and there, I was sitting in a chair, just like at the hairdresser, and this helmet was being moved down over my head, and excruciating pain was the result. But it had to be that way, and I knew it. There was no way of avoiding this process, for without it, I would never have been able to channel the beings that I was able to channel.
 
You see, in my last incarnation, I was, you can call it a medium, a spiritual teacher and a medium, where the teacher took over my entire body, my astral body stepped out somewhat. But in this incarnation, I have to work consciously, meaning staying in the body with the being that came into me. To be able to do that, my brain cells, my waves of brain, you can call it what you like, I’m not a biologist or anything like that, had to be speeded up so that I could take being, staying in my body with the being that I would be channelling at the services. 

In order to step up a frequency in the body, in the brain cells, I had to be given quite a number of sessions up there. It was painful, very painful each time. For two and a half months, I had headache every day – you can ask my mother when it started. I had to lie down in my bed, completely straight with the head – I couldn’t move at times – while they did the work, I couldn’t move at all – excruciating pains, it’s like getting knives into every part of your brain, without anesthetic. And I did it – I could manage, because they don’t give you more than you can take, really. You have a pain limit, they all know what pain limit you’ve got, and they give you to the limits. 

And that was the start of my work for the Hierarchy in this lifetime. During that summer, I was contacted by this great being from Jupiter. Not only were they doing work in me, but they also came to me when I was in bed. And I was lying in bed, in the summer house where it all started that summer, and I could feel the bed rocking under me, and the floor rocking, because the vibrations were speeded up. 

They send small spacecrafts to people from the mothership, where they do work when they place the little spacecraft on top of the house. The whole house is rocking in the ethers. They send down rays, and that is another part of the job, where they speed up the etheric body, and the astral and the mental, so they come to vibrate quicker. 

What they also did was they asked me to go out – we had a summer cottage, my father’s summer cottage there – there was a little hill, where no one was allowed to build, and we had to sit there and they came out of small spacecrafts and walked towards me. I was sitting there with some co-workers, and sometimes they could see them but I always saw them, and they did work on us in open air. See, when they do work in open air, you can’t feel much. It is when you are taken out in your mental body, that is horrendous, and when you are lying in bed, that’s even more horrendous in another way. But it was the start of it. 

Then I was contacted by Plutonians, because Plutonians do other work. You see, you have to understand what energy they radiate. Jupiter:  expansion of mind, enlightenment, illumination. They were expanding my cells and giving light to the brain cells. The Plutonians gave me another energy – the start of the neutralisation of personality. Pluto is death of personality. They give you an energy with which you can come to conquer your personality. 

I was also contacted by Venutians, and Venutians are very beautiful, because they are tall – they look like humans. They are tall, blonde hair and very often wear a ribbon on their foreheads with a shining metal of some kind – always looking alike. 

The ones that never show face are the Martians, because they are not very pretty to look at. So whenever I was contacted by Martians, they had no face. They had, they appeared, they manifested in a figure, a body, but they had no face. So, I knew who I was dealing with – the faceless ones were the Martians. And the Plutonians, had one thing, all of them had one thing in common:  the eyes were like mirrors, they have no pupils. And when you look into them, it’s just like looking into a mirror. 

And they have, usually, an energy around them where you might think, if you were not an expert in energy, that you were dealing with the wrong forces, the negative forces, because they have black around them. But this is how I can discriminate, you see, I can discriminate between Plutonian darkness and the darkness of the Lord of Darkness. It is two different kinds of energies. The Lord of Darkness has horrendous energies, frightening energies, black, filthy, not very pleasant to be near, while the Plutonians have a totally neutral energy, impersonal, totally impersonal, and they are beautiful beings, beautiful. 

That summer, and for the rest of the year, was the summer I started the Cosmic Service in Copenhagen. For the rest of the year, a lot of work was done by the space people. But they, they left us, because the danger point on Earth was neutralised, and they have recently returned, but other beings. Here in, two years ago, a little bit more than two years, three years ago, I was contacted by beings from Vega, and I had never been in contact with them before. Beautiful beings, total love, much higher vibration than Venus. Enormous heart chakras, they have very enormous, radiating heart chakras, and they can only contact you if your heart chakra starts to shine. And they then do work in your heart chakra. 

But I have felt the space people quite a lot for the last year, and they are actually coming to us at services and doing work – they have started again, because we have another danger point in the history of the Earth now, we have a danger point, and then they come and help. And sometimes they manifest so the people can see them, formations of spacecrafts here and there. 

But I’m not in contact with space beings who are not good, who are actually working negatively. Many people are, and they believe them to be good, and they are in fact bad. And they have a bad effect in people. They give them a lot of wrong messages, a lot of negative mumbo jumbo talk, and people who cannot discriminate think they are in contact with highly elevated beings, and they listen to every word they say, they perform every deed they mention, without discrimination, and that you must never do. 

Because even if I’m fairly good at discriminating beings and energies, I always ask, if I am a little bit uncertain, if they are working for Christ. Many people forget to ask these beings whom they are in contact with, if they work for Christ, and that is a major mistake, because negative beings are appearing like extra-terrestrials and space beings and the Hierarchy and great guides and angels, but they can in fact not radiate love at all, because they haven’t got love in them. The beings I’m in contact with have much love in them, they shine – not with the artificial light of the astral levels, but with the pure light of soul – it’s another frequency. 

But how can I explain this to people when they can’t see it? It’s difficult for me to explain to you that there are two different frequencies of light around people:  there is the astral light and the soul light. This we are explaining in the summer school at Glenormiston this year, we’re going to explain the difference between the lights. I can briefly say that these beings I’m relating to have soul light, enormous compassion and loving eyes. 

And they have taken me up to many meetings, and sometimes they have made me fall asleep, because I obviously couldn’t manage to take all this consciously. But I have been in spacecraft where the Lord Jesus, as the Venusian Master – He has another appearance that He’s using – as the Venusian Master initiates people up there. I have been to many ceremonies conducted in spacecrafts, as well as ceremonies conducted in Shamballa, and on the inner levels and in temples – completely different energies, totally different. 

You can ask me now, why do they need the spacecraft? They don’t. But they use them – they are energy fields, and they live there and work within them. And these energy fields are of another vibration than the energies you find on the inner levels of Earth. 

They have rooms in these spacecraft where you are being placed on a bench, a bench-like contraption, with a glass bowl – it looks like a glass bowl – that they put on top of you. And in that glass bowl, they cleanse and purify you totally. And you can lie there for hours, or just five minutes, ten minutes – it’s very wonderful. I like the glass bowl better than the helmet. 

It’s an interesting thing that on Earth, we have very great, elevated space beings incarnating, and we have lesser space people, and some of these space beings incarnating on Earth have various incarnations here, various missions. And I was told, back in Denmark, that Uri Geller was a typical space being in incarnation. He was helped by the space people, he had these energies to use. He was not working for the Hierarchy. 

You can work for space beings who are of a certain level, but have nothing to do with the Hierarchical work on Earth. People do not quite understand that we have a Hierarchy who deal with man’s spiritual evolution and growth. We then have so-called other brotherhoods who are not as elevated as the Hierarchy, and we have beings who are allowed in, to work on the inner levels of Earth, but are bypassing the laws of the Hierarchy to a certain extent. They are allowed to train their own people. 

The Hierarchy is just observing, unless the people they are training, well, accumulate so much bad karma that They have to step in. Many, many, many people are thus being trained by different, so-called institutions on Earth, and within Shan the Rising Light† we deal primarily with the Hierarchy, the inner government of Earth, and then with the space beings that are connected to the Hierarchy, enormous, enormous beings. 

But I’m not the only one who is contacted. Many people are, millions, millions upon millions of higher developed souls on Earth are contacted. But perhaps they do not remember as much as I do, for the etheric body, when the etheric body is of a certain vibration, you remember more and more of what happens to you when you are out of the body. 

It is an interesting training, and I’ve done it to people, in lying-in meditations, at services, I have connected them a lot, three years ago, to the space people, to spacecraft, took them with me, and they felt the energy, exactly the way I felt:  pressure in the brain, and a certain energy in the room, like you are sitting in a pressure pot. And just before the lid explodes, they stop. 

I was even subjected to their help, the first summer, enormous contact with them, when I was driving from our summer cottage to Copenhagen, a forty minute drive, they very often followed us from behind, and sent energy into the car. And you could feel it immediately, because the whole car became a pressure cooker, the pressure was of a certain nature. And as it disappeared, immediately the pressure went down. 

There is a lot of work that you have no idea happens to you at the services, in your meditations and so forth. I know that some people have contact with these space people, but I often wonder, when I hear about their experiences, who they are in actual fact in contact with. Because the space people will never frighten you. They will work in you, and they will let themselves be known to you if you can handle it. But as a matter of fact, they’re working in many, many people to help them to come to certain realisations and understandings on this Earth.

Q. There’s another question, ‘Could you please explain the third initiation, what it involves and the nature of the subjective experience?’ 

The third initiation is the first major initiation of the Hierarchy. It involves a permanent link with the Higher Self and a link to the Spirit self, the Monad. 

It is very difficult to obtain the third initiation in the flesh, for before you have obtained it, you have had numerous lives of pain and suffering, to learn many experiences on Earth. The first initiation is the birth of Christ within the heart – it is also called the Bethlehem initiation, the House of Bread. The Lord DK calls the first initiation the House of Bread, the Bethlehem is the House of Bread. 

Why bread, in occult meaning is life, it means that a human being becomes an alive human being for the first time in all existence in human form. Because a human being is not considered totally alive by the Hierarchy unless the heart chakra is stimulated, and at the first initiation the heart chakra is stimulated to a certain degree, and the permanent atom is shining within the heart. One can see the link to the soul within that heart. 

And the second initiation, the Baptism of Jordan, is the link to the whole nature, the Holy Spirit, even more linked to the Higher Self. 

And the third initiation, which is very difficult to obtain in the flesh, but people are obtaining it now more than before, even though not in great numbers, very, very small group of people, group of souls, and that is the initiation of the transfiguration.

We can call the first initiation transmutation, not perfected transmutation, but a somewhat transmuting of the inner self, of the darkness into light. Soul contact established – sporadically, but still.

The second initiation could be called the transformation. A human being with a second initiation is quite transformed in comparison to other human beings. 

The third is the transfiguration, where the whole human man or woman is in contact now with soul – there is a lot of soul light around that human being – and that human being is seemingly to other people, if they can see it, very much more enlightened and happy, joyful, knowledgeable and so on, than other human beings. One becomes then a member, a greater member of the Hierarchy, and one becomes a stronger link for the Hierarchy on Earth. We will see people taking the third initiation in the Aquarian Age. We have only a little number of them, 400 or so on Earth, but we shall see the number growing on this planet in the New Age.

Q.  Then I have another question here, ‘What is the role of Christ in the new world religion or in the New Age?’ relating to this initiation here. And this I would like to explain a little bit about, because that interests me immensely. 

It is this that the Christ, the Lord Maitreya, the Bodhisattva, entered into the Lord Jesus and utilised His body for three years, it was actually more, but the mission, the great mission, was over a period of three years. 

Now the whole Piscean Age, in that age, we say that Christ spread the Light, Christ was called the spreading of the Light, the spreading Light on Earth. In the Aquarian Age, which we have entered now, He is called the radiating Light. 

And we have differences, because the Lord Maitreya will appear on Earth as what He really is:  the Spiritual Head of the Hierarchy. He will not appear only through a vehicle, which had been prepared for him like the Lord Jesus. He will appear, either Himself in manifestation, in an inner manifestation, with the inner body, the mental body or the soul, or He will appear within disciples, but it will be much more of Himself appearing. It will be so that one knows it is the Lord Maitreya speaking – it is no longer the person standing there, but the Lord Maitreya in that person. 

The Christ has a much more all-around universal role in the new world religion. And because of His presence on this Earth, to a much greater extent than before, people will be initiated – they can’t help being initiated, because His Light will manifest much more light in people, and the light demands initiation. 

By that I mean, the more light in a human being, the more this human being will be ready for initiation, and with initiation, not only link to his own Christ self but also to that of the World Teacher, the Christ, on the inner levels. 

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Maitreya, now working in Melbourne, will be a church which will lead people through to the first initiation and the second. It is a role that some, very few, churches will have, or certain temples, certain ceremonial temples on Earth, namely that of leading the aspirants into initiations one and two. It has never happened exoterically before, it has only happened on the inner levels. This is the whole change in the New Age. People will be initiated here and now, and as groups.

We have to understand that where the Hierarchy mainly worked with individuals, They now work with groups. They’re not so interested in individuals any longer. They are interested in group work, group initiation, group healing and so forth. And that is why we have founded Shan the Rising Light. 

We’re nine Founders, all of different degrees, who are a group in this incarnation. We are no longer one person who has founded something, or two persons, two people don’t found a group, we are nine people, a perfect number for a group, and we work as a group bringing people to the portals of initiation. 

This is why I manifest all these groups in the church. I am putting the servers into groups, for it is as groups that they will develop and be brought to the portals of initiation by the Hierarchy. 

Now, that doesn’t mean that the groups love each other personally – they may hate each other dreadfully, and they often do. But that is exactly why they have been put together: namely, to work out all these programs of the past. They are meant to come to love each other and all hatred disappear, and the Hierarchy is very patient. And They will wait because there is nothing else They wait for on Earth than that: of people loving each other as groups, will bypass each other’s negative sides and qualities and just work for the good cause as a group of people. 

So if you understand me right, the Lord Maitreya has always appeared on Earth through other disciples, either through Krishna, that was one disciple, through Jesus, through Saint Patrick, through all these people, disciples that He had worked through. But now, He’s appearing as Himself, the Lord Maitreya – that’s the difference. 

And thereby, He has established the way of the heart on Earth. Because the way that Jesus established was the way of purified feeling, it was not the way of the heart. Now we are walking the way of the heart into perfected life. With the help of the Lord Maitreya, we can accomplish that. But we never had that way of the heart on Earth earlier. 

Q. I have a very entertaining question here, so I’m going to see to it that you are refreshed by this amusing question here so you don’t fall asleep on me. ‘Is it possible to literally sell your soul to the devil? If so, what happens to the soul and the Spirit in Theosophical terms? Is one bound by this contract forever?’ 

Well, many people believe that selling your soul, well, that’s something in books and films and it’s a lot of fun – but it is in fact very true. We can do it consciously, and we can even sign a contract that we will give our soul to the devil if we can get what he promises us the most:  fame, riches and power. 

Now, many people are unconsciously working for the Lord of Darkness without knowing it, but some are consciously doing it. And now we are talking about the ones that consciously do it. They are the ones that consciously promise the Lord of Darkness themselves, so that he has a wonderful instrument on Earth. They want something in return of course, namely, fame, riches and so on. 

He might even ask for a contract, and that contract cannot be neutralised because the person wants it to be neutralised. It can take hundreds of lives before that person is free of that contract or that work, the promise to work for the Lord of Darkness. 

And what you are not aware of is that the only way to neutralise the contract is by attracting your soul light to you by doing good work. Not in one life – that’s no good. Hundreds of lives of good deeds, saintly living, sacrificing your life for a worthy cause will neutralise the contract. You can’t neutralise it in one incarnation of good living, of righteous living – absolutely not. It will take much more. 

For you must remember that when you have spent your lives working for the Lord of Darkness the way you’ve done, you cannot just decide over one night that you want to work for the Lord of Good, the Lord of Life, and that’s it. No, no, then retribution comes, the karmic down payments start. They can be speeded up or slowed down – in the end, you have a sort of clean sheet, the Hierarchy takes you into service. But, always know one thing:  before you enter the service of the Hierarchy, always know you’ve worked famously and well for the Lord of Darkness, and this is a fact for nearly all souls on this Earth. 

Yes, yes, that’s an interesting topic. You can actually make a contract also with the Masters of Wisdom, especially to the Count of St Germain, promising to be a good boy or a good girl and so and so, you can write a contract saying, well, the money I get I will use for this purpose and that purpose and you know, how you’re going to live your life. 

But you’d better keep it, because if you don’t:  karma – you’ll get more karma than if you hadn’t of course. But it is something that is done occasionally, that you write a letter to the Master, you promise the Master to work for the Master, and you will donate so and so much time, so and so much money for the good cause, you will do this, you will do that, and then you sign the name. And you burn it, you burn the letter, and the Master has received it, even while you are writing it. Better keep the promises, that’s my suggestion. 

Q.  So there is another question here: ‘If someone belongs to a retreat, for example, Luxor, what exactly does this mean?’ 

It means that you are under training by the Master who lives in or governs that retreat. It has always been this way, that only disciples could be admitted into the retreats of the Seven Rays. But because of Earth’s evolution and human progress, They’re taking aspirants now – not aspirins, not the ones you swallow for headache, but aspirants, neophytes, acolytes, there are many names. 

And in these retreats, see, you either live there physically, you are brought there and you live there physically, or you are brought there in the night when you sleep, your astral and mental body go there to be trained. Or, you can be there for training for a number of years in your mental body, but you are not aware that it’s missing from your bodies of personality. 

Well, the way you can notice it’s missing is that your brain has gone, the brain has been substituted with a kilo of hay or something like that, and you suddenly feel all blank, where you had a wonderful intellectual mind before, you can’t even spell your own name correctly – it happens, it happens. Very, very peculiar periods of emptiness, and suddenly it’s back with you, and you again have your intellect and everything of good memory. 

But then, it’s often the case not of something that has happened to you, disease or anything like that. You have been, your lower mental body has been in a retreat for a period of two months, three years, seven years, 12 years, and I’m experiencing that myself. 

I can go through a period totally brainless – don’t remember a thing, and other periods where everything is working wonderfully well. It’s simply happening, more and more, in people today. It is not a sign of your losing out in vitamins or whatever you may think, a stroke is near – it is simply that you are taken out. 

Now, what are you learning in those retreats, what are you learning there? You are learning to control that energy, meaning those characteristics, those talents that the energy teaches you, and it’s very strict disciplinary training on top of it of course. 

And the Master has His co-workers there. And of course, Luxor is governed by the Lord Serapis Bey, so He has a lot of devas there as well. 

These retreats will become physical on Earth. They have been mainly etheric, but around these places there are also physically built retreats which you cannot enter unless called for. Well, you cannot be welcomed into retreat unless you are invited. 

Now, these retreats are slowly manifesting on Earth’s physical level. In the next couple of hundred years, you will see this energy of the Master developing, in certain spots of the Earth you will have physical retreats. 
And what were we told six months ago, it’s almost six months ago soon, that Melbourne was becoming another Luxor. It was becoming a very powerful retreat of the same kind as Luxor, and that is – a certain part of Melbourne of course – and that is happening all over the planet. They are sort of branching out, slowly but surely. You can receive the same training, energy wise, as in the retreats and sooner or later may be called in physically to visit the retreats.
